Why do cats sleep on you
If you are a cat parent, you are probably familiar with the feeling of waking up with a furry “thing” on your back or stomach. Or you are on the sofa with your pajamas, watching your favorite show, and… BOOM!
Cats don’t share the same sleep patterns as humans. While we need a long block of sleep to refuel our energy stocks, cats take several naps throughout the day. Even though you have filled the house with cozy spots, pillows, cat trees, beds and still your head in his eyes seems to be the most comfortable place to take a nap!
Parts of your body perfect for cat sleep
You might have noticed that there are parts of your body that your feline loves more:
Your head.
The main reason for that is because of the steady heat released by your head throughout the night. Another reason could be that he might enjoy the scent of your head or shampoo.
Your chest.
The main reason that your cats likes to sleep on this part of your body is because he is relaxing by your heartbeat and the sounds of your body. Especially when we are sleeping and our body is at its most calm.
Your lap.
This is by far the best spot to perch. Not only because it is warm, but they can also get some extra petting.
But how could you know for sure if your kitty is actually happy. Follow the link and find out on thatsmeow what Trixie is sharing with us.
Why do cats sleep on you?
Looking for warmth.
A normal temperature in cats ranges from 100.4º to 102.5º Fahrenheit. So they find ways to maintain that temperature without much effort. This explains why cats enjoy to take a nap next to the radiator, in sunny windows or even close to the engine or exhaust of your car after you have parked.
Looking for security.
Cats are natural predators and their senses are always sharp. Not only to attack their prey but to defend themselves against a larger predator. While they are sleeping they are more vulnerable than any other time and lying on top of you gives them an extra sense of security.
Empowering the bond.
While most people think that cats are unfriendly, every cat parent knows that this is not true. If you have more than one cat in the house you have noticed that they use each other as a pillow, but if there is no other cat, then guess who the pillow will be! This is their way to tell you how much they love you and that they want to spend time with you.
Marking their territory.
Cats are instinctively territorial creatures and they love to mark their place with their scent. So when they lie on top of you they are actually marking you as theirs.
Whatever may be the reason, the fact is that your cat loves to lounge on you. He is relaxing by the warmth and sounds of your body, so the best you can do is enjoy this pleasant habit and cherish the moment.
