White tigers are a genetic anomaly, according to the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), and they are not known to exist in the wild. They often result from inbreeding, which leads to various health problems at birth. The absence of red and yellow pigments gives them their pale coloration, and in some cases, they may have an almost complete lack of stripes, making them predominantly white.

The white coat of a white tiger is a hindrance in the wild as it offers no camouflage, significantly reducing their chances of survival. The origin of all white tigers in the United States can be traced back to a single male white continental tiger that was imported decades ago.
