What Happened To Choupette, Lagerfeld’s Beloved Cat

Hundreds of pairs of fingerless gloves and works of art will be among the exhibits in 8 auctions that Sotheby’s is arranging for the Karl Lagerfeld collection.
However, what attracts the attention are the dining plates of the designer’s favorite cat, Choupette.
Choupette was born on August 15, 2011, and originally belonged to Baptiste Giabiconi, who received her as a birthday present when she was just a 10-week-old kitten. Baptiste asked the designer to keep his cat for a few days while he was abroad, but when he returned, Lagerfeld just announced that Choupette would stay with him. “She has brought sunshine to my life”, Lagerfeld added.
Karl loved Choupette so much that he had made sure she had a personal bodyguard, chef, two maids, and social media accounts, managed by professionals. ‘I never thought that I’d fall in love like this,’ says Chanel’s Karl Lagerfeld.
After Lagerfeld’s death and while the information about the property he left to his beloved Choupette had come to light, many began to wonder. Where is Choupette? Who took care of her?
The New York Times tried to unlock the mystery with a report about a year ago. According to this report, Choupette lives with Lagerfeld’s housekeeper and she is in very good health, with people who love her by her side. “She is also very busy,” said her agent, Lucas Bérullier, but “She comes to the agency on occasion, and we do photos here for her Instagram account”.
Sotheby’s auctions bring to light the lifestyle of Choupette, who, in addition to the above, traveled by private jet. The dishes to be auctioned have not yet been photographed, but will have a place next to the 3 Rolls-Royce cars, a portrait by Japanese artist Takashi Murakami and furniture by Australian designer Marc Newson are among the items up for grabs.
