A dog, living in an animal shelter, helped rescue seven orphaned kittens, which were taken under his protection.
According to the British animal welfare organization Battersea, Bertie, a 1-year-old Labrador Retriever, started caring for the seven kittens. The kitties were found on the side of the road without their mother. They were just two weeks old when they were brought to the shelter.
The kittens underwent a veterinary examination. Apart from being hungry, they were completely in good health. Bertie\’s mom and Battersea chief nurse offered to take the kittens home and take care of them with her dog until they were ready for adoption.
“These kittens were definitely a nuisance, from the first days when they needed bottle feeding until they first discovered the joy of climbing. \”Bertie not only helped them become sociable, confident little cats, but he also had a lot of fun”.
s\”Being a former Battersea resident himself, it’s so moving to see a dog that was once rescued now helping to rescue other animals in need. I\’m very proud of Bertie and the way he has taken care of the kitties”.
Bertie and his mother took care of the kittens until they could eat on their own and use the sand without help. When they became a little more independent, they returned to the shelter where they were adopted.
“I am sad that they left but I am glad to know that Bertie and I helped to have the best start in their lives”.
